Solto Collina gently rests on a lovely plateau, Fonteno has slopes forming a ring round the village where everyday life follows the rhythm of earth. Bossico, covered with meadows, beech woods, and pine forests, has balconies giving a coloured and gorgeous view over lake Iseo. The Camonica Valley preserves a rich naturalistic patrimony. It includes two important protected areas: the National Park of Stelvio and the Adamello Park. Here the mountain is to enjoy: paths and itineraries with facilities allow easy trekking and more demanding excursions.

The Camonica Valley is rich in ancient tokens of prehistoric men as well as medieval ones: castles which, from the top of the cliffs, dominate gorgeous Romanesque Churches, small villages and medieval towns such as Bienno and the stone engraving Park of the Camonica Valley, which is the most astonishing and exciting witness of the existence of the prehistoric man in the Alps. Hundreds of erratic blocks, surrounded by a lovely wood, house more than seven thousand pieces of engraving: 870 of these are on the rock number one: a big monolith called "the big rock". Naquane Park spans a period of eight thousand years. The route through the valley of hammers is fascinating to rediscover the thousands year old arts and crafts of iron-beating.
Sheep-breeding is a very important resource for the province and its culture: cattle, sheep and goats produce good milk and as result good dairy products. Fonteno Valley, Bossico Plateau, the Mounts of Costa Volpino and Rogno and the hills of Solto count a considerable presence of farming. Each shepherd's hut, each zone produces its own cheese and has its own way of processing, thus producing various milk products which are excellent to serve with any dish based on the traditional "polenta". While nature is getting ready for winter rest, also in our everyday life we need to give more attention to inner spaces and good cuisine, to creating an intimate place where to spend time with the family, and where to touch glasses with friends with a good, D.O.C. (Registered Designation of Origin) wine of Valcalepio.

Horse riding

|
Riders have no doubts: the best way to enjoy this land is on the saddle of a horse.
Of course enjoying the beauty surrounding us by riding is a kind of magic, a source of unforgettable and deep moments. Around our lakes and in the side-valleys you can do some hiking and horse trekking, from the short and easy tracks for the less experts to the one-day "exploration" trip. Good riders can easily imagine how many emotions such a territory can give: in a few dozen kilometres it gathers lakes, woods, meadows, sweet hills, steep mountains and plains where to ride at large. Unpractised riders will have the delight of a double discovery: horses and our valleys, seen from a new perspective: from horseback. |
